Manitou Dorado - Reviewed

Published Sep 10, 2009 at 23:25
Back in February of this year you may have caught our preview of the Manitou Dorado that we have had on test since that time. It's been a long time since we've caused such a stir on the website. With about 200 comments and too many reads to count, it easily garnered the most attention of any of the products to hit the front page in recent memory. But I guess that was sort of expected. I can't remember a single new product causing quite the crap storm of interest, but with carbon legs and a massive price tag it was bound to do that. And let's not forget that it is from Manitou, a name that many once swore by but that had fallen by the way side in more recent times. There are a few good questions to answer, mainly is the new Dorado really that good?

Read on to find out what we think about the latest wonder fork from Manitou.

Haro Steel Reserve Eight - Bike Check

Published Jun 18, 2009 at 0:21
There is just something great about having a 'little bike' to go and play on. Whether it's your only machine, or a second bike to go and do a bit of the urban/DJ thing, a small hardtail makes a great addition to any stable. Every bike company worth their salt has a lineup of these little bikes to pick from, today we're going to take a closer look at one of Haro's offerings.

Enter the Steel Reserve Eight.

Klunkerz DVD - Review

Published Jun 8, 2009 at 17:16
"To know where you're going, you have to know where you've been"

And with that in mind I sat down and watched the much lauded DVD, Klunkerz, a movie documenting the early mountain bike movement during the late '60's and early '70's. Lots of people had taken bicycles into the bush long before these men, but this particular group of riders can lay claim to more innovation than any other, and thankfully for us, there were people around to document it as it all happened.

Pinned DVD - Review

Published Jun 6, 2009 at 23:40
Straight from BMC Productions is Pinned, a relatively new DVD covering loads of North American action (along with a few foreigners thrown in for good measure). Shredders include Steve Wentz - Ian Odom - David K - and Chris Kovarik, among lots of others. Pinned has been in and out of my DVD player too many times to count throughout our terrible winter/spring so I'll let you know what I thought!

Does the world need another MTB DVD, and if so should Pinned be on your to-get list?

Rocky Mountain Flatline Pro - Reviewed

Published Jun 5, 2009 at 15:29
Our Rocky Mountain Flatline Pro test bike has been with us for many months now and has seen nearly every sort of terrain one could imagine. From moonscape rock, to cold and wet B.C. forests, the Flatline has both saved me and punished me on too many occasions to count. No matter where I brought it, attention was sure to follow. With it's unique lines and personality I was questioned at nearly every trailhead and parking lot. No more need for questions though, read the review and watch the videos to see what we thought of Rocky's flagship DH bike!

Colonnade Bike Park Mini Trip aka: Escape To Dry Dirt!

Published Jan 12, 2009 at 15:57
It has been a bad winter. Instead of the three months of rain we are usually treated to, we have been snowed in, frozen solid, and then flooded out. As it turns out, complaining incessantly does nothing to help the situation! I've been hearing about Seattle's Colonnade Bike Park for awhile now, and it seemed like there was no better time then now to pony up and head South. Nestled safely directly under the massive I-5 highway, the park promised dry dirt and new terrain. In other words, our winter Shangri-La!

Inside you'll find way too many pictures and a video showing you what the Colonnade Park is all about!

Rocky Mountain Flatline Pro: Preview of a Review

Published Jan 1, 2009 at 20:49
What is long, squishy, and white and red? No, not that candy cane that you just found under the couch cushion...although I'm sure that is still ok to eat. What I'm talking about is Rocky Mountain's new top flight Flatline Pro DH bike. Don't get too excited as the review is still a ways off, but due to sheer boredom (the large amount of snow will do that to me) I've put together a little "preview to a review" article to get your blood flowing during these cold winter nights. Inside we have got Wade Simmons on video from 'Vegas to give us the low down on the Flatline, as well as far too many pictures!

Stuff Mike Rides #7, DMC Moto Timer, Five Ten shoes, and KMC X9SL in fancy gold!

Published Nov 11, 2008 at 22:31
I go through a lot of different bike parts and gear. Some of it wears out or breaks, some of it I really regret buying, and some of it I swear by. Stuff Mike Rides will show up every now and then, whenever I get around to writing it. All of the stuff that I don't feel like writing a 9000 word review on will be in one of these. More than anything though 'Stuff Mike Rides' will be about how things held up over the long haul.

Volume #7 of S.M.R. has got the goods you are interested in, which is coincidentally the same goods that I've been abusing for the last year: a DMC Moto Timer which is the poor mans way of seeing how slow you actually are, some ragged Five Ten high top shoes, and KMC's jewelry-like gold X9SL chain that Cori's Mom was kind enough to model for me!

Trek Remedy - Custom built 6" travel speed machine!

Published Oct 28, 2008 at 23:01
Trek's Remedy 6" travel platform uses some new and unique features to hopefully move it ahead of the pack in the All-Mountain category. Having spent a few days on one I knew it would be the perfect candidate to build up my dream mid-travel ripper. 6 months later and I have a pretty good impression of how the bike performs and its distinct ABP pivot and FullFloater suspension system, as well as the trick E2 head tube.
