Too Much Fresh Meat For One Man To handle!

October 4, 2007

Published by kakah

There is no such thing as too much meat and September's installment proves it!

Up first we have three servings of medium rare Race Face cutlets. The all new Diabolus D2 stem, Atlas AM stem and the low-rise Atlas bar. Hutchinson is on the plate also with its full sized 2.5" Bulldog tires and Axiom is represented with its nifty Enforce DLX Gauge mini floor pump. For dessert we've got some killer BLT lights to keep you riding full year round. The FireWire 4.0 and the snack-size Ozone 21NE

Let's start it up with the new Race Face Diabolus D2 stem for '08!

Price:$140 approx. Canadian MSRP.

Features:
-35, 50 and 70mm length options in 1 1/8th
-50 and 70mm lengths to pick from if you are using 1.5"
-0 and 10 degree rise
-"Bad Ass Black" to match your bad ass

Info:
A stem was just a stem until Race Face dropped the original Diabolus some years back. With anodized flames and a bigger than life look, it was one of the first bike parts to incorporate style and attitude with function. The next generation Diabolus is here, the D2. The D2 carries over the interlocking faceplate and is still machined in good 'ol B.C. with 6061 aluminum, but is infused with some BMX genes. Notice the top loading bar clamp and lower than ever stack height. Paul B and the Claw himself have and will be rocking the new D2 stem for the '08 season and beyond.

Race Face Atlas AM Bar And Stem

Price:$145 approx. Canadian for the stem, $105 approx. for the bar

Features:

Stem:
-Stem is machined in B.C. out of 6061-T6 aluminum
-Interlocking U shaped faceplate for a more even clamping force
-Opposing steer tube clamp bolts
-50, 70, 90, and 110mm lengths
-8 degree rise
-31.8 clamp only

Bar:
-Bar is made from cold drawn air alloy
-Shot peened for increased fatigue life
-Internal taper for added strength without added weight
-27" wide with a 9 degree backsweep and 6 degree upsweep
-Low .75" rise
-31.8 clamp only

Info:
Do you like to charge the downhills after you've earned it? Need a new cockpit for your all-mountain ride? If so you may be interested in Race Face's new Atlas bar and stem. You definitely don't need to run the two together but they ooze class when paired up.

Hutchinson Bulldog tires

Price:$55 to $95 Canadian depending on model (MSRP)

Options:
-MRC Medium compound in 2.3, 675gms
-MRC Medium compound Tubeless in 2.3, 875gms
-MRC Low compound in 2.5, 1180gms or 1270gms with DH casing
-MRC Low compound in 2.5, 1350gms or 1405 with DH casing
-Lots of skinny XC sizes and choices

Info:
Those French and their rubber...Hutchinson has been in the rubber game for something like 150 years and bike tires since 1890. The range of tires is huge but we are going to focus on the the Bulldog right here, right now. The Bulldog does come in smaller sizes but the 2.5" width is something to behold. You can tell by looking at this big meat that it is meant for serious riding. Tall aggressive knobs are meant to bite into anything but the layout of the center knobs does manage to retain some rolling abilities. The well spaced knoblies (that is a word I've decided) should still shed the most gooey mud though and the MRC Low compound will provided the grip on those wet days. It was just a few rides but I was stoked on Hutchinson's big meat. Despite the tall knobs, I actually didn't feel any of them rolling over on hard pack and the traction was amazing. If you did something for 150 years, you would be good at it too!

Axiom Enforce Air DLX Gauge pump

Price: 35$ Canadian (MSRP)

Features:
-Mini pump that converts to floor pump
-Aluminum body
-Reversible valve does Schrader or Presta
-Alloy threaded valve cap
-Pumps up to 160psi!
-Built in gauge

Info:
Right now you are thinking "Mike, how exciting can a pump be?" Well junior, really exciting and cool when you get a flat on your ride and discover that Cori's mom packed a tube for you. She is nice like that. Anyways, this little thing is a work of art. Alloy bits, hose extension to make it easier on you, and the ability to go to 160psi! The Enforce pump has a trick up its sleeve though. Shazam! It has turned into a mini floor pump!

The Axiom Enforce DLX Gauge is built to save yo' ass!

BLT FireWire 4.0 lights

Price:$150 Canadian (MSRP)

Features:
-One 4 watt highpower LED
-Equivalent to 15watt halogen
-Alloy light head and battery stick
-Runs on four AA batteries which are included
-Both bar and stem mounts included
-20 hour burn time!

Info:
Lights have come a long way since those dull orange spots on the ground back in the day. BLT has been there since the beginning and 2008 looks to be brighter then ever. Above we have the BLT FireWire 4.0 light. It is a super tight package that includes a slender battery stick and an LED bulb protected in a sick aluminum head. There is a ton of light pumping out of this system and its topped off with an amazing 20 hour burn time.

BLT Ozone 21NE

Price:$120 Canadian (MSRP)

Features:
-One 4 watt highpower LED
-Equivalent to 21 watt halogen
-Runs on two CR123 lithium batteries which are included
-Aluminum body
-Includes both bar and helmet mounts
-3 hour burn time

Info:
Good things do come in small packages. This little light packs quite a punch with a beam that rivals a traditional 21 watt halogen but in a package that you can put in your breast pocket. I can clearly remember owning a 20 watt halogen light system that came with a huge battery, massive plastic light head, and had a 1.5 hour burn time on a good day. Welcome to the future! LED bulb in a aluminum body and a 3 hour burn time.

i wish you filmed the tire from the top; that view doesn't really show the tread pattern very well. maybe i'll see it in a store sometime....

It was the only shot that we had on file for the tires. If you follow the links, there are more details and pics on the Hutchinson site to explore.
