New DH Wheels From Easton and a Blackburn Pump Designed For Big DH Tires!
I know, I know...Pumps aren't exactly the most exciting thing to see from Interbike '08 but you owe it to yourself to check out Blackburn's new Mammoth 2Stage. Made to move a ton of air fast into your big DH tires, the 2Stage may deserve a place in your backpack!

When you sit down and really think about pumps and tires, as I know I do all the time, you'll start to question why we are using the same pump that was designed for a little XC tire on our high volume 2.5" and bigger treads. There are certain pumps that are made to work specifically for low volume but high pressure road tires that move small amounts of air but go to extremely high pressures (120 psi+), but nothing that moved lots of air to lower pressures. You may as well stop thinking about it and get up because here's Blackburn with their Mammoth 2Stage pump.
The 2Stage's massive barrel moves loads of air fast but as the old saying goes "the more air you move, the harder it gets to pump", which is where the little red switch comes into play.
Start pumping on the "high" setting which moves high volumes or air. When your pipe cleaner arms can't handle the force anymore simply hit the switch to "low" to easily top up your tire with less effort
By effectively turning the handles shaft into part of the air chamber the 2Stage is able to move loads of air so you can fill up your 2.7" meats or inflatable lady-friend way faster. That equals less down time and more riding time
The Blackburn Mammoth 2Stage pump is both presta and schrader compatible and uses a locking head to hold it in place on your valve stem. If you wanted to you'd be able to push 90 psi into your tires, but it really works best with higher volume big DH and FR tires. The 2Stage retails for $29.99.

Being a sucker for anything wheel related, I was in euphoria during the entire Interbike show. I should have just hung out in the Easton booth the entire time I guess because they had so many of their rad wheels hanging out that I would have been set! We could only pick one to show you though and I think we chose wisely: Here is Easton's new Havoc DH wheelset!
Starting from the inside out, let's look at the Havoc DH's hubs. Available only in full-on DH configuration of 20 mm front and 12x150 mm thru-axle rear, they are finished nicer than most boutique brands one can find.
Like some other brands Easton has chosen to go the straight pull route with the Havoc's spokes. I know it looks different but it really does make sense. No weak bend to break at, as the bend is always the flimsy part of a spoke, and butting that actually runs from 2.3 to 2.0 mm's ensures that these DT spokes are über-strong! Because the rim is so tough the Havoc DH's sport only 28 spokes, that's all they need! Between the spokes being straight pull and having a larger 2.3 diameter, Easton has measured them being 46% stiffer than a traditional design. Black brass nipples hold them in place at the rim end.
Speaking of rims....
The Havoc DH sports a burly 32 mm wide extruded rim that will be work better with 2.5" and wider tires. It's added height should make for not only a far stiffer rim but also one that resists flat spots and dings better.

Wow, more great products for 09. Think all the companys at Interbike deserve a pat on the back!
yeah a big double barren pump from your loacal diy store for 5,99, look at that thing it looks sweet and is at a competative price!
ya i love the double barell thing and 30$ is good but i already have a pump that works good enough for me
I do like the look of those Havoc wheels, but to me they somehow look a little copied. Somewhere inbetween Mavic Deemaxs (28 spoke, similar looking hub.. ignoring the fact its a 3pawl system rather than two and it's drilled rather than slotted for spokes) and DT Swiss 2350 wheels (look at that rim profile).

They are to havy comparing to other similar whelsets as Sub Add Lite, Mavic Deetrax, Dt Swiss, etc.
Weight are like SunRingle Add, Mavic Deemax, DT Swiss FR3250, but all these wheels have wider rims and 32 spokes.

I run the AM Havoc on my DH rig and they are strong enough with only 24 spokes, I guess that the DH version will be twice as tough. I run 2.5" DH16's on the havoc AM and over the last year I have had only a loose spoke nipple..
why does it seem that pinkbike only post videos of products they were paid to post??........no specialized bikes shown, no Sombrio...strange...I guess nothing is free in this world including bike coverage eh?
thats sick, although i hope they realese and upgrade for a stainless axel and freehub body like chris king, for more stiffness.

it's funny how there is a couple contradictory statements in there. they mention that rotating weight makes a big difference, then they mention that the axle is made of aluminum (which generally doesn't spin), and then they put brass instead of aluminum nipples? i thought weight was important? Granted the wheels do look good and could probably take a beating. just thinking out loud here.
makes sense buddy.. anyways, you can always swap to alloy nipples, they sell for about 35 cents each..
dont aluminum freehub bodies wear down much faster if you do not match them with an aluminum cassette set. which some people may not have. people have complained about this problem on hubs such as the hope pro 2.
i didnt find it in there, but how many engagement points will it have, for the speed of engagement on the freehub when you put the power to the pedals.
